“The Consolation” is a triumphant return for The Buddyrevelles. The band seamlessly blends elements of their past sound with a newfound maturity, resulting in a collection of songs that feel both familiar and innovative.

The Wisconsin-bred rockers The Buddyrevelles are back after a 15-year hiatus, and their first offering, the EP titled “The Consolation,” is a satisfying return to form. This first installment in a trilogy of 4-song releases finds the band effortlessly blending their signature melodic rock sound with a newfound maturity, but there’s no mistaking the youthful energy that bursts through throughout “The Consolation.”

The EP takes a unique approach, combining newer ideas with material that’s been patiently waiting in the wings. This results in a sound that feels fresh yet strangely familiar, a quality that long-time fans will surely appreciate.

The opener, “Abracadabracus,” throws listeners headfirst into the experience with its dynamic energy. Plucky guitars and warm basslines intertwine with thought-provoking lyrics that grapple with trust and high stakes. “Music Crisis Midlife” offers a delightful contrast, blending jangly guitars with brass infusions for a more introspective and harmonious feel. “Born To Lose” is a melancholic song that explores the disillusionment that can come with chasing after societal expectations of success and happiness. It offers a somewhat bleak outlook, but it could also be a call to re-evaluate one’s priorities and find more meaningful pursuits. The EP closes strong with “Locked in, Loaded,” a briskly infectious  a sugar rush of a song, packed with hooks and a youthful exuberance that leaves the listener wanting more.

The Buddyrevelles’ years away from the spotlight haven’t dulled their musical edge. Their life experiences infuse “The Consolation” with a depth and richness that resonates throughout the EP. This newfound sense of purpose is evident in the powerful performances and emotionally charged lyrics. The Consolation” deserves a spot on your playlist.
