Seven and Counting’s “Tonight” is a strong debut that will appeal to fans of classic rock with a modern twist.

Croatian band Seven and Counting announce their arrival on the music scene with a bang, their debut album “Tonight” a potent blend of classic rock, soulful ballads, and infectious grooves.

The album opens strong with “Keep Me,” a nostalgic rocker that tugs at the heartstrings. It is a song about cherishing the past while recognizing that some things can’t be preserved exactly as they were. The question of how to maintain a connection with the past, while accepting the changes that life brings, remains unresolved, leaving the listener to ponder their own experience. The track ultimately becomes a song about navigating the bittersweet territory of nostalgia.

A shift in gears comes with “Back In Your Arms,” a tender ballad that showcases the band’s versatility. A pure love song, the opening verse emphasizes the lengths the singer would go to be with their loved one: “I can drive… A thousand miles from home… Hell, I can even fly/ From coast to coast… For days and nights/ And I’ll be back again.” Lush harmonies and expressive vocals create a yearning atmosphere, perfect for a slow dance under the dim lights, lost in the promise of reunion or a moment of quiet reflection.

“I Don’t Wanna Go Home” is a celebration of friendship and carefree nights. This catchy track is an ode to staying up late, laughing with friends, and letting loose. The infectious melody practically begs the listener to join the revelry.

“I Promise,” the fourth track on the album is a heartfelt apology and an expression of unwavering love. The singer regrets past actions and offers everything they have to rebuild the connection and support their loved one. Lines like “If I could turn back the clock” and “undo the things I’ve done” establish this central theme.

The album’s title track “Tonight” beautifully wraps up this ten-track collection. The song narrates a journey of self-discovery and liberation. The lyrics “Across the town I’ll take a ride/ I won’t stop and I won’t hide” and “Tonight I’m on my way” establish a sense of movement and determination. “Tonight” is an upbeat, empowering song that celebrates the courage to embrace change, leave the past behind, and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

It’s worth noting the band’s perseverance. Formed in 2015, they faced lineup changes and pandemic delays before finally unleashing “Tonight” in March 2024. This dedication to their craft shines through in every track, making their debut all the more impressive.

“Tonight” is a strong debut from a band with great potential. If you’re looking for rock with heart, soul, and a touch of grit, look no further than Seven and Counting.
